I4UFH, Fabio Schettino

SSB operator Since 1972, Fabio has been involved in ham radio.

After few years of SWL he got the license in 1979 at 19 years old.
First contest was the King of Spain in early 1980, a huge EA pile up !

in 1982 he joined the IY4FGM the Marconi House Station, were Marconi has started his first wireless experiment. After several National top score scores from 1982 to 1987 from the IY4FGM and his home QTH, he joined the IR4T Contest Team located in the north centre Italy not far from his home

, with an amazing Contest Place, the shack is located on the top of a 70m water tower, in a flat surrounding area.

Fabio`s first serious activity started in 1987 from the IR4T QTH participating into several contest : CQ160, ARRL DX, WPX, IARU, WAE, CQWW and ARRL10 in several categories as MS or SOAB or SOSB, getting several Continental and WorldWide results, almost all the solar sunspot cycle # 22 was spended from this amazing place.

Still Holding All Time Score in the ARRL DX SO20m in 1992 and M2 on 2000.

At the bottom of the cycle in 1995, the recognize of IG9 and IH9 as separate country for WAE Country list has boosted several plans to activate this “Country” during the CQWW Contest.

From 1995 to 2000 several activity was done from IG9 Lampedusa is. In 1995 Fabio was IG9R SOSB20m, 2nd place world just behind Jim N6TJ from ZD8Z, the 1996 he tried again as IG9/I4UFH into SOSB80m getting 1st place world beating EA8AH.

In the WPX 1997 with the unique IZ9Z call he got the the 2nd place MS behind the almost unbeatable ZX0F.

In 1999 and 2000, near the top of the cycle, Fabio was one of leader of a 24 operators field day activity into the MM category from IG9A, catching the 2nd place in both years behind only the CN8WW crew.

In 1999 he was also guest from 3V8BB for the IARU SOAB and winning 1st place world

, and still holding the All Time zone 37 record.

In 2000 he join the 3V8BB German team for the winning place in the WAEDC contest, in the ARRL10, same year, he get advantage of the superb station at CT8T winning the EU plaque in the SOSSB category and holding the All Time EU record.

Starting from the CQWW 2001 Fabio has participated in several Contest from the D44TD QTH. He was involved in the first ever MS in the CQWW SSB 2001 winning with more 10000 QSO logged, and hold the All Time record until VP2E guys got it.

The WPX SSB 2002 was another winning Contest in the MS category from D44TD with the holding of the All Time score, same year in the ARRL 10m he was into SO SSB with an amazing over 5000 QSO in 36 hours, getting 1st and holding the All time score also in this event.

In 2003 he entry in the SOAB Assisted from D44TD and got the 2nd place World behind P40W.
In the CQWW SSB 2005 he join the FY5KE team, with a world winning place.

The 2006 was guest op at CT8T for the ARRL DX and getting the 1st EU.
In the CQWW 2006 back into Italy for a SOABAssisted with a 2nd place EU. In 2007 start to be involved again  in Cape Verde but to a different project, building a M/M station over o top mountain in Mindelo, the new D4C  project .

New challenge and new blood has been added to this international project were technology and experience will try to take this new Project on the top 3 for the next sunspot cycles.

Fabio was also cofounder of the Marconi Contest Club, Italian Contest Manager in 2002/2003 season and invited in all the last 4 WRTC’s, Competitor in 1996 in San Francisco, Judge in 2000 in Slovenia, Competitor in 2002 in Finland
